My usual commute to work takes me partway along one freeway and a short distance on another for around 15-20 minutes. That's just long enough to notice a couple of these people, but over the last couple of days, I've had to travel further along the second freeway to get into the city, and during these trips I've noticed several more. The section of freeway has 4 lanes, and you would think this enough to avoid those who decide to take a nice country drive along a road that is supposed to be traveled on at 100, but no. I've noticed something in drivers. It seems that if a freeway is quite wide, like this is and one person sits on a speed of 80, almost all the other drivers seem to have a compulsion to do the same, so they don't overtake each other. Maybe it's because they all think they are doing 100 because everyone is doing to same speed as them or maybe it's because of something else, but it gets very annoying when you try to change lanes to overtake one car, only to find that there is another car in the new lane doing the same speed.
It's an odd phenomenon, almost like when you see one person yawn, you feel the need to do so as well, it's contagious. In any event, I don't have a problem if you don't feel comfortable doing 100 on a freeway, but please don't sit in the right lane, the overtaking lane and do it. Move over into the left lane so others who can do the speed limit can pass you.
